Hi, I am Stanley Soosay and I am a dog trainer, by profession and by passion. I believe that, that makes a huge difference in my training techniques as it enables me to understand the dogs much better. There is no end to learning for me as I believe learning is an on going process. Each dog, each breed of dogs, comes in different shapes and sizes also come with different drives in them. This makes the dogs unique. Understanding the drives in a dog is a crucial part of training the dog. I strongly believe that cultivating the drives in the certain dog has its benefits. Reconditioning of negative behaviors, molding and shaping of positive behaviors are what I do and what I am specialized in.
I used to be a dog trainer in the Malaysian Army since 1979 and I credit that experience gained there as a reason in choosing this as my field of expertise. I was appointed first as a dog handler and from there was trained to become a trainer for guard dogs, tracker dogs and explosive search dogs. I was then also serving as an Assistant Veterinary Officer. I received my training from the University Pertanian Malaysia.
I love dogs. My love for them motivates me to keep learning about them and to better my training techniques. In order for me to explain my present training techniques, I would have to first explain training techniques I used to practice one of which, a conventionally traditional form of training, coined as negative reinforcement training which involves correction. This technique is a method where the dog is corrected using negative reinforcement (negative reinforcement is where a dog being trained is corrected using strain, stress and pain). The dogs learn how to obey commands by fear and thus limiting other positive drives in the dogs.
Limiting other positive drives ina dog is one of my main motivation that has led me to find alternative methods to training dogs. My training techniques are further discussed in the training process section.
